Senate Bill 26: Teacher Compensation – Teacher Retention Allotments

On February 26, 2025, the TX Senate has passed SB 26 which is their teacher pay bill. The next step is for this bill to go to the TX House. This bill contains several parts, but one important part is a proposed “Teacher Retention Allotment” which would give school districts additional allotments designated to increase pay for teachers with at least 3 years of experience. The House is about to consider their own Bill (HB 2) that discusses teacher pay. It does not presently include this “Teacher Retention Allotment” as far as I can tell.

Here is how the Teacher Retention Allotment is proposed in SB 26:

For districts with more than 5,000 enrolled (Midway ISD & Waco ISD):

  • Teachers with 3-5 years of experience – $2,500
  • Teachers with 5 or more years of experience – $5,500

For districts with 5,000 or fewer students enrolled (All other ISDs in McLennan County):

  • Teachers with 3-5 years of experience – $5,000 each
  • Teachers with 5 or more years of experience – $10,000 each

This chart shows how that might look for teachers with 10-years of experience in McLennan County.
